Project Partner GIZ-S2HSS II
Project Location Kathmandu
Project Start Date Nov 2025
Description In Nepal, healthcare facilities generate substantial amounts of liquid waste daily; however, while solid healthcare waste management has improved, healthcare liquid waste (HCLW) management remains inadequate. To address this gap, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), through the Healthcare Waste Management Section of the Department of Health Services (DoHS), is strengthening the national framework for HCLW management.
Under the Nepal–German bilateral project “Support to the Health Sector Strategy II (S2HSS-II)”, implemented by GIZ with support from BMZ, technical assistance is being provided to enhance sustainable healthcare waste management in line with Nepal’s Health Sector Strategic Plan (2023–2030). Previous GIZ-supported studies assessed HCLW practices in six hospitals and resulted in a draft framework and sampling guideline, forming the foundation for a comprehensive national guideline.
Building on this work, Eco Concern Pvt. Ltd. (EcoConcern) will undertake the assignment to validate and refine the existing framework and sampling guideline and develop a practical, technically sound, and nationally applicable HCLW Management Guideline. The assignment aims to produce a standardized reference for improving healthcare liquid waste management across federal, provincial, and local levels.
The key objectives of the assignment are to:
- Conduct a 2-day writing workshop to refine the draft framework and sampling guideline;
- Develop a draft Healthcare Liquid Waste Management Guideline; and
- Conduct a 1-day verification workshop to review and validate the guideline.
