Project Partner City-Wide Inclusive Sanitation ,Technical Assistance Hub in South Asia
Project Location Nepal and Bangladesh
Project Duration Aug 2020 to Dec 2020
Description The overall objective of the assignment is to develop Tailor-made business models and plans for each of the municipality as per their nature of FSM program, investment, type of partnership, treatment technology and objective, its required operation and maintenance, and reuse potential. With the increasing awareness about the necessity and possibilities of FSM has started attracting investments from the Governments and Donors. The immediate solution to FSM has been observed through faecal sludge treatment plants (FSTP). Investments are concentrated more for the construction of FSTP with little or no prior study for the long-term sustainability of these treatment plants. The partial planning and allocation of resources for the rest of FSM service chain components has often understated the importance of this nexus on financial flows and the long-term sustainability of the whole FSM program. Lack of sufficient income generation and management mechanism in place, the FSTPs as well as the whole FSM program are highly susceptible to failure. EcoConcern is inspired by the Global agenda of UCLG ASPAC that the development and people living condition should be undertaken at local level. Strengthening local level will improve the living condition of the local people. EcoConcern will share the UCLG values across the project stakeholders and bring local perceptions to UCLG platform so that the allied partners get benefitted and network among them get more meaningful. This study in collaboration with UCLG will support nine different municipalities in Nepal (5) and Bangladesh (4) to develop their FSM business models.
