Description With the beginning of COVID-19 pademic, lives of people was disrupted, similarly affectiing the waste management system. With the rise in COVID cases, the challenges for proper collection, treatment and disposal of waste was rising. The volume of waste generation had increased at both the municipal as well as health facilities level, with increased potential threats from the infectious healthcare waste and other generated, contaminating the municipal waste stream. UNDP Nepal under its COVID recovery effort, worked with selected municipalities and selected healthcare faicilities with the aim of strengthening their capacities in safe management of the municipal solid waste along with the potentially hazardous healthcare waste through implementation of vairous activities under the Promoting Green Recovery Project (PGRP). The proejct aimed in wider dissemination of the information to the committees and the key stakeholders for efficient management of the wastes and increased community participation.
For this, EcoConcern was selected for the development of training modules for delivery of one day training(on-site) and online training modules along with facility-based Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the proper healthcare waste management for the selected seven hospitals. The document covered:
- Three training modules one each for delivery of one-day training on HCWM and environmental cleanliness to the medical personnel (doctors, nurses, paramedics), support staffs and management or the municipal staffs.
- An online training module of 3 days for safe HCWM and environmental cleanliness
- A facility-based SOP for the detailed waste operation procedures (segregation to disposal)
